WNEW FM, a prominent New York Radio station has a loyal group of fans dedicated to 'Opie & Anthony' an afternoon fun and comedy show. On Saturday July 7th 2001 a group of volunteer firefighters from the Union Hook & Ladder Fire Company of Far Hills Bedminster, New Jersey were invited use the radio station promotional event to raise money for Duchane Muscular Dystrophy. A rare form of disease that attacks the muscles of young males. One of the firefighters' son has this disease.
Opie & Anthony definitely cater to the 21 - 40 single male crowd in the NYC and tri state area. This particular event was at the famous Stone Pony in Asbury Park NJ, right on the boardwalk along the wide white beach of the Atlantic. It was a beautiful 88' degree day at the Jersey Shore. There were about 2500 people and various alcoholic beverages were present to set the mood.
The fundraiser was a rented 'dunk tank' which was brought to the site. Mr. Fizz felt it was necessary to 'cool off' the girls involved so he provided 1 liter FizzLite bottles and water for all.
Mr. Fizz received permission to print these photos, however, everyone wanted to remain anonymous because it was just good clean and wet fun had by all.
So as you can see, the event was cool and wild. Mr. Fizz is grateful to the WNEW staff for a great day!
